Flight Status (CheapOair)

CheapOair is a company with a mission to help budget-savvy travelers explore the globe at an affordable price. A lot of its customers book flight tickets and expect personalized experience throughout their journey, especially before they take off. The Flight Status project was an attempt to help customers be aware of their flights before taking off.

Background & problem

A lot of our CheapOair complained about needing to leave the site to check flight status. This was an opportunity to enhance user engagement by bridging that gap. If similar service or an even better one was provided, it is possible that users extended their time and frequency on visiting the service.  Another goal was to encourage users to sign up for memberships. Having this tool exclusively accessible for members could help us test the idea if users were more inclined to sign up with better and more features provided.

Projected Impact

Increase of user engagement

By inviting users back to the platform after their purchase, we expected a higher stickiness of the service and more return customers.

Increase of member signups

By making this feature member-only, we expected to see more customers encouraged to sign up for memberships.

Refreshed impression on the brand

By handholding customers with their needs even post purchase, we expected a brand image of being customer-focused and experiential.

Platforms & touch points

Web

Since the web platform has one of the biggest traffic and was deemed as the source of truth of our customers, we decided to start with having an entry point on the homepage after signing in.

Apple watch

We knew that customers look for flight status a lot on the go, either on the way to the airport or waiting in terminals. It is common that customers look for it on the app, but it could be even more convenient if we provide it through smart wear, with the capability of intimate notification and easy access.

Final Solutions

Apple watch

The several explorations on gestures. There were vertical and horizontal scrolling involved. We were trying to have as little layers as possible so user don't get lost in this relatively smaller device. Also we tried to be efficient with the screen size and made sure users can get the info they need within few interactions(click/swipe.)

Search by airport: This is a list of flights based on the airport info users provide. The design is to look like the status board at airports. If clicking on the individual flight, users are able to look at the card for more detailed info. You can also look up for airport maps.
